Fernando Guerrero - Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Guerrero is Varadero’s majority-owner, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer, as well as a member of Varadero’s Investment Committee. Mr. Guerrero has more than 30 years of experience in the structured credit markets and has worked on a number of transactions in the ABS and CDO markets. Prior to Varadero, Mr. Guerrero was Chief Executive Officer and CIO of NIBC Credit Management, Inc. (“NIBC CMI”), where he was responsible for all aspects of NIBC CMI’s North American activities, including its Investment Management business. Mr. Guerrero was also a member of NIBC CMI’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining NIBC CMI, Mr. Guerrero was Head of the Global Structured Products Group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (“MLIM”). The Structured Products Group was responsible for augmenting MLIM’s presence in the global CDO market by leveraging the group’s structured product expertise with the extensive capabilities of MLIM’s investment and research teams. Mr. Guerrero and his team focused on distributing, structuring, and managing CDO risk. Before joining MLIM, Mr. Guerrero was Head of the global CDO effort at ABN AMRO and responsible for establishing the CDO business. Prior to ABN AMRO, Mr. Guerrero was Head of the Structured Products Group at TD Securities where he founded the firm’s CDO business. Prior to TD Securities, Mr. Guerrero helped establish Donaldson, Lufkin, Jenrette’s (“DLJ”) CDO business as part of its high yield capital markets effort. Prior to DLJ, Mr. Guerrero was a Managing Director at BT Securities and was in charge of the firm’s global structured finance business and emerging markets debt capital markets effort.
Mr. Guerrero has a B.S. and M.S. degree in Finance from Louisiana State University, and he is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at The Harvard Business School. -
Jonah Lansky - Portfolio Management
Mr. Lansky is a co-founder of Varadero and responsible for portfolio management. Mr. Lansky is also a member of Varadero’s Investment Committee. Prior to his employment at Varadero, Mr. Lansky was a Director at NIBC CMI as well as a member of its Investment Committee. Before joining NIBC CMI, Mr. Lansky worked in the Global Structured Products Group at MLIM where he was responsible for analyzing investments and developing structured issuance programs for MLIM’s portfolio managers. Mr. Lansky began his finance career at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., where he worked in the Asset Backed Securities Group to structure, underwrite, and distribute securitization transactions, including residential mortgage-backed securitizations, auto loan securitizations, dealer floor plan securitizations, and esoteric asset securitizations.
Mr. Lansky has an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. -
Erik Cornelissen - Chief Risk Officer
Mr. Cornelissen is Varadero’s Chief Risk Officer and is responsible for risk management. Mr. Cornelissen is also a member of Varadero’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining Varadero, Mr. Cornelissen served as a member on the Board of Directors and Chief Risk Officer of NIBC CMI. Mr. Cornelissen previously held senior positions in risk management at NIBC Bank in asset-liability management and market risk management, serving as Director of Risk Management Financial Markets. In this role, he oversaw NIBC Bank’s risk management of financial market activities in the areas of interest rate products, structured credit, and hedge funds. Mr. Cornelissen was responsible for the development and implementation of economic capital concepts at NIBC Bank and made significant contributions to the development of NIBC Bank’s risk management. Prior to NIBC Bank, Mr. Cornelissen was Treasury Manager at Robeco Group where he co-developed the team’s currency overlay program and traded FX and money market products.
Mr. Cornelissen has a Master’s degree in Econometrics from Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands and is a post graduate of the Treasury Management program at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. -
Michael Linn - Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer
Mr. Linn is Varadero’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. Mr. Linn is responsible for developing the firm’s institutional platform and enhancing operational efficiency. Mr. Linn has over 25 years of operational, transaction and start-up experience in the investment management business. Prior to Varadero, Mr. Linn played an integral role in the development of businesses at several investment management platforms, including River Birch Capital, BlackRock / Quellos Group, Omega Advisors, and Steinhardt Partners.
Mr. Linn has a B.A. in Chemistry from Emory University and an M.B.A and M.S. degree in Finance from Louisiana State University.
